Research investigating the health benefits of consuming black pepper, for example, has linked the popular spice to lowering blood pressure. Several studies suggest the active substance found in black pepper called piperine helps to lower blood pressure.
A study published in the Journal of Food Science, found that chewing on fennel seeds helped increase the nitrite content in saliva, making it a great natural way to keep a check on blood pressure levels.
Magnesium can help in lowering high blood pressure. Green leafy vegetables, seeds and nuts (e.g. almonds, cashew nuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds) are good sources of magnesium. Seeds and nuts also contain heart-healthy fats. It is unnecessary to take additional magnesium supplements.
