Consciousness: Moving from Ego States to Zero States
For as long as you're threading the scenes of your everyday experience into a story or narrative, you're going to experience yourself as a "me", as a localized identity center - this is a state of contraction, tension, resistance, memory, meaning. This gives birth to living from the states of ego, the states of separation, ego consciousness birthing a dualistic reality where "space" is separate from "time" and "self" is separate from "other".
What reality do different states of consciousness, those that are not based in ego consciousness, birth then?
Consciousness has to ability to assume and fill any form, bringing that form to life. The perception of waking experience, the perception of physical reality automatically generates psychological containers for consciousness to fill. Labels, definitions, descriptions, and all forms of identifying the objects of space-time give consciousness fields it can occupy and animate. Meaning generation, memory, autobiographical narratives all utilize consciousness constrained into specific constructs. Ego is such a psychological object, a container of mind-stuff that consciousness assumes and occupies to bring a particular type of reality to life.
Each state of consciousness on any level has core constructs that consciousness organizes around. In the case of ego states, one of the main core constructs is that separation exists, that space separates objects and that time separates events.
❝Only that individual who has lost his individuality
has merged with the ‘Parabrahman’. So the individuality
must go. The entire world moves on the basis of one concept,
and that is ‘I am’ – the fundamental concept of one’s individuality.❞
Unraveling the innumerable states of ego consciousness begins when you unravel this master construct of separation. The very basis of the localized identity, that sense of "me" is the perception that there is such a thing as division, fragmentation, separation. What happens when you dissolve all perceived boundaries in your field of observation? What happens when you dissolve all perceived boundaries between events? What happens when you dissolve that sense of being a separate and independent "me" surrounded by other independent "me's"?
If there is no other...
If there is actually no boundary between one object and the next ...
If there is no continuity between one frame and the next ...
If there is no space between one moment and the next ...
If there are no successive moments because there is no separation between moments ...
What's left?
What personal narrative is there?
What history is there?
What autobiographical memory has any validity?
Who does your story actually belong to?
Who gave you this personal story?
In order for the echo of this inquiry to be heard and to really land deep in your awareness, you must stop and really listen, really digest this line of curiosity. In order to view the reality you have set into motion, you must let go of the 'me' that you are being just for a breath to open up the very space this 'me' is occupying. It's in that emptying out, it's in that release and moving out of tension, that you have an opening to receive the returning waves from the Field, the echoes of who you are being. It's in that releasing that you allow yourself to return to the Zero State, the states of no-thing, the states of total openness.
Let go of what's happening as the internal narrative tells it.
Let go of the narrative itself.
Let go of the voice arising to weave a story.
Let go of the 'me' that's weaving the story.
Let go of that very sense of me-ness that is at the root of every thought arising.
Empty out and witness what ripples into your field.
