1) Setting stupid small goals and achieving it will make you feel good (1 min to 5 min). Help to from strong habit and make you ready for something big.
2) Newton's First Law; The object at rest stays at rest until an external force is applied and an object in motion stays in motion until an external force is applied. The relation between them has Physics in common. Rest mode to motion mode; hardest part of the equation. When a rocket is propelled to space; the maximum fuel is used in the starting while take off. Very easy after that to move in space.
Mini Habits make it easy to bring us from rest mode to motion mode. If I think; I will exercise or read a book, it will make difficult to change my rest mode. But if I think, I will do one push up, read one paragraph, it will make easier my wake up. Start from zero to one, instead of zero to 100. Take small actions and come in motion state. Our mind gets positive affirmation which is very important to make form a permanent habit.
3) Ego Depletion; Our will power is like a battery cell. In the beginning, it is full. While doing different things, it starts finishing. Then difficult to do works which will require high will power. E.g, New Year Resolution; half hour meditation everyday. It needs big will power to perform especially when you are exhausted. Mini Habits and small goals need not big will power, no need of big interval. Compare 30 mins with 30 secs. Now habit chain will not break.
4) Continuity; Do small things to create habits and complete resolutions. For average people, it takes 66 days to form habit (18 days to 245 days). Mini Habits, it becomes really easy to not break continuity (one push up, reading one line). It will help to form permanent habit and give success.
5) Emotional Push; A boy was habitual of eating sweet. In New Year Resolution, he decided not to eat sweet any more but failed to control himself. Usually medium or big goal setting in the start are not best. It affects self confidence and self believe. I can't do it and wait for the next year. Mini Habits help in developing self confidence by setting stupid small goals and achieving them.
If that sweet eater boy was to decide eating 3 chocolates a day instead of 4, then it was easy for him to comply.
